It turns out that Huawei has finally developed its first-ever 1-inch CMOS camera sensor coupled with various new imaging tech and features. The company hasn’t announced the big news yet, but the headlines started making waves on the internet.
Huawei’s self-developed CMOS camera sensor has been in rumors since last year. The company earlier seemed to be prepping it for the Pura 80 flagship phones.
Although the rumors went under wraps when the Pura 80 Ultra debuted as the first smartphone with switchable dual zoom camera sensors. Now, the company’s self-made imaging tech is back once again with some certainty this time.
DigitalChatStation stated that Huawei has released its first 1-inch CMOS full-stack self-developed camera sensor, packed with powerful imaging tech like DCG.

This new sensor is a 50MP camera with a 1/1.3-inch format. It uses an RYYB (Red, Yellow, Yellow, Blue) filter array that allows 40% more light to reach the sensor.
RYYB sensors enhance low-light performance with noise reduction in dark scenarios and improve the overall dynamic range to offer brighter and more detailed images even under challenging conditions.
On the flip side, the 1-inch camera sensor is paired with DCG and HDR technology. DCG refers to Dual Conversion Gain technology that boosts the image quality by capturing a single exposure with two different gains – high and low simultaneously.
The DCG tech is capable of decreasing the shadow noise and minimizing motion artifacts. It further optimizes color reproduction and offers clear shots even in mixed-lighting environments.
Apart from this sensor, the leak shed light on some other sensors of the new self-developed Huawei CMOS camera series. For instance – 1-inch, 1/1.3-inch, 1/1.56-inch, and 1/2.5-inch – all with 50MP.
The tipster didn’t reveal any other details about the new imaging sensor. However, netizens speculated that it would appear with the upcoming Pura 90 flagship phones.
Let’s see how much time Huawei will take to showcase this new creation publicly.
