HarmonyOS is growing rapidly in the Chinese tech industry. Its expansion is not limited to smartphones but is also reaching third-party cars. Making its place in the news, Huawei recently spotted a coordinated attack against the HarmonyOS operating system, confirming that appropriate actions are being taken.
A HarmonyOS department spokesperson told Chinese media that HarmonyOS is being targeted with social media posts to malign its growing footprint in the industry. Such content is being pushed online as rumors of unsealed deals between Huawei and other companies.
For example, a rumor pushed on Weibo that Xiaomi will launch a new car with the HarmonyOS smart car system. However, the President of Xiaomi Auto has clarified that this is a made-up story.
The Huawei spokesperson said that such rumors misrepresent and misattribute Huawei. Not only do its content and viewpoints deviate from mainstream values, but its motives are also questionable, and such an approach is despicable.
On a further note, Huawei announced that people involved in this entire misadventure will be pursued in efforts to defame the product.
Launched in 2019, HarmonyOS is Huawei’s self-developed operating system, first introduced for smart TVs. In the following years, the OS made its debut in smartphones and other devices such as tablets, smart wearables (smartwatches, headphones).
Under a larger expansion, Huawei made it available through smart cars with a cockpit system through major Chinese auto makers, providing the HarmonyOS smart car experience. With this close cooperation, the HarmonyOS smart car system has become the fastest-growing car OS so far in the Chinese market.
