Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max vs iPhone 17 Pro Max vs Xiaomi 17 Pro Max: Drop Test

Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max has been released for customers, bringing a brand new all-metal design that challenges iPhone 17 Pro Max and Chinese competitor Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, and recently, these three Pro Max smartphones entered into a drop test battle to decide the ultimate winner.

A Chinese gadget reviewer has conducted a drop test on these three devices to find the strongest design. According to the reviewer, these are retail units, and he put them through different tests.

Height Test

The first test was a 1-meter drop on four different surfaces, including wood, marble, granite, and bluestone. The test ended with the three phones sustaining no visible sign of damage.

The next test was based on a 1.5-meter fall; the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s ceramic shield glass shattered when it first fell onto the bluestone slab. This could be due to its uneven design language and weight distribution. On the other hand, Xiaomi 17 Pro Max has a dead pixel on its rear camera glass. Finally, the Huawei Mate 80 Pro had no damage at all.

In the third round, the test reached a 2-meter height, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max’s back cover shattered completely, and the inner screen also felt the impact, and it was the first one to lose. Huawei Mate 80 Pro, with its all-metal basalt body and second-generation Kunlun glass, remained unscathed, which was quite surprising.

Corner Fall

The four-corner drop test showed that the iPhone 17 Pro Max glass fragments scattered once contacted through the front glass at a height of 1.5 meters, and the result was even more devastating at 2 meters.

Xiaomi 17 Pro Max’s frame deformed at this height, but the screen wasn’t that much damaged compared to the iPhone. Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max survived the entire test with rear and front sides, but with a small dent in the frame.

Asphalt Road test

In the final phase, the reviewer used an Asphalt road surface to test the drop resistance. The Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max’s kunlun glass broke (not completely) when dropped from a height of 1 meter, losing this round to Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, which withstood this test. It took three drops to test to shatter the front.
