Huawei has brought back a useful feature with the Pura X Max foldable – an auto-rotate screen. The new capability has been missing from Huawei smartphones for years. But the company’s latest move finally suggests its return to devices.
AI-powered auto-rotate or automatic screen rotation is an orientation feature in smartphones. It uses built-in sensors to detect how you are holding the device and automatically switches the screen layout between portrait and landscape mode.
It signals the device to adjust the orientation as soon as it turns sideways. A major usage of this feature is to set the screen as per the users’ preference when playing games, watching videos, viewing photos, or reading for a better and wider view.
Unlike other auto-rotate screen features that require manual adjustments, Huawei’s auto-rotation follows your face – thanks to AI algorithms. It will turn the display content wherever it detects your face is moving – you can view from different angles.
For instance, if you are sitting on a sofa while watching a clip in portrait mode on your phone and feel like relaxing or simply lie down, the screen layout will change accordingly.
The company launched the auto-rotate screen feature with the Huawei Mate 30 series in 2019. If you are holding the phone vertically, the screen will remain intact. The moment you turn it horizontally, the feature used to rotate the displayed content.
While the feature continued to show up in the P50 series, the company has removed it after launching the Mate 50 handsets, and to date, it hasn’t made its way back.
But looks like Huawei is now planning to bring back this feature. The OEM has recently updated its policy on the official website, where it has replied to the issue – “Huawei phones not rotating with the user’s face after auto-rotation is enabled.”

According to the official details, the auto-rotate screen feature is now available to Pura X Max, Pura X Max Collector’s Edition, Pura X, and Pura X Collector’s Edition.
The new phone addition in the list suggests that Huawei can bring back the auto-screen rotation feature to its devices in the future. Though an official announcement still awaits this matter.
