Samsung finally launches its Huawei Mate XTs rival

Samsung has finally ended the wait for its first triple foldable and launched the Huawei Mate XTs rival – Galaxy Z. After a wait of two years, the South Korean tech giant has now revealed the official look of its tri-fold against the champion model.

Let’s dive into the details of Huawei Mate XTs rival, made by Samsung!

Huawei and Samsung have been in the “first tri-foldable maker” news since 2023. Both companies were preparing the dynamic product to blur the line between a smartphone and tablet, taking the multitasking experience to a whole new level.

While Huawei debuted its first tri-fold in 2024 and second-gen model this year, Samsung took two years to introduce the Mate XTs rival in the market. But the good news is that the Galaxy Z triple foldable stepped in with some really noteworthy changes.

What are these changes? Let’s find out!

To begin with, the device is 3.9mm thin when unfolded and 12.9mm thin in the folded format. That’s thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 flagship. The cam look is the same as the dual-fold model with a rail-like module housing three imaging sensors.

It has an inward-folding design, protecting the main display from scratches and direct impacts. Meanwhile, it has a strong hinge system that helps in convenient folding.

The back uses a ceramic-glass fiber reinforced polymer material with a new titanium hinge + Armor Aluminum Frame, and Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 for the front face.

Display:

Galaxy Z tri-fold has launched with a 10-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen, featuring 2160 x 1584 pixels resolution, 1600 nits peak brightness, and a 120Hz refresh rate. Though what’s even more special about this display is a shock-absorbing layer.

Samsung has implemented an advanced shock-absorbing layer on the triple-foldable screen. It eases the stress on the folding sides and offers better resistance across the foldable. That’s for the main display panel.

Cover Screen: The device features a 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x display with 2600 nits peak brightness, 120Hz refresh rate, and FHD+ resolution. It also supports 100% DCI-P3 color range, offering vivid colors irrespective of the brightness.

Dimensions:

  • Folded: 159.2 x 75.0 x 12.9mm
  • Unfolded: 159.2 x 214.1 x 3.9mm
  • Weight: 309 grams

Advanced Hinges:

Samsung has used the most advanced hinges for its first triple foldable. It has implemented the refined Armor FlexHinge in two different sizes with a dual-rail structure. Thus, the mechanism offers a smoother and more stable fold, reducing the gap and enabling a thinner + more portable foldable.

Camera:

Samsung Galaxy Z debuted with a triple-camera framework on the back that holds a 200MP primary shooter (Quad Pixel AF, OIS, and 2x optical zoom), a 12MP ultrawide-angle lens (Dual Pixel AF and 120° viewing angle), and a 10MP telephoto sensor (3x optical zoom + 30x digital zoom).

The front sides have 10MP selfie snappers (one on each front panel). These imaging components make the triple foldable no less than a flagship fold handset.

Internal Parameters

Galaxy Z equips the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, coupled with 16GB + 1TB and 16GB + 512GB storage options. It packs the biggest battery in the Samsung family to date – 5600mAh with a superfast charging of 45W wired and 15W wireless capability.

Samsung said the device can be charged up to 50% within 30 minutes. It has qualified for an IP48 rating and can bear water submersion of 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.

Top features include Samsung DeX and Galaxy AI that enhance the overall multitasking aspect for users. Whether it’s screen sharing or data transfer, users will get a seamless experience.

Price:

Samsung Galaxy Z tri-fold will first debut on December 12 in Korea with a cost of $2500. The time will show how the device will perform over its rival in several segments.
