Huawei has officially confirmed that all the Nova 16 series models are using the Kirin 9010S chipset. From the standard variant to the top-end ULTRA version, every Nova 16 handset is equipped with the Kirin 9010S 5G mobile processor – is it good?
Kirin 9010S debuted last year with the standard Pura 80 smartphone. The company has used the same chipset for the Nova 15 series high-end models – Pro and Ultra.
Now the company is bringing the same Kirin 9010S chipset for the Huawei Nova 16 series models. But don’t worry, as it has got some real tweaks and improvements.
The CEO of the Huawei Consumer Business Group Unit – He Gang revealed that the Kirin 9010S chip is coupled with the latest HarmonyOS 6.1 software system. As a result, the entire Nova 16 series will deliver better performance over Nova 15.
Regarding the improvements, the chief suggested that the Nova 16 series has improved “overall performance” by 10%. The home screen operation fluency is increased by 12%, the task switching is smoother by 44%, and content loading is now 21% faster.

Nova 16 series also brings gaming optimizations for large-scale MOBA and FPS mobile games. All three models – standard, Pro, and Ultra can run at a stable 120 frames per second.
It offers 41% smoothness and 30% improved frame rate stability in MOBA games over the previous-generation models. The figure changes to 46% and 20% for FPS games.
Kirin 9010S has two large cores at 2.50GHz, six medium cores at 2.05GHz, and four small cores at 1.50GHz. It is superior to the Kirin 9010 processor.

Apart from the dynamic Kirin + OS combination, the Nova 16 series supports a new ice-bridge cooling architecture that maintains a stable temperature irrespective of long gaming sessions. Thus, it reduces the heating effect on the performance.
Overall, the Nova 16 series promises to offer significant upgrades in terms of chip, system smoothness, gaming experience, and thermal management compared to the Nova 15 handsets. But of course, the actual performance of this lineup will come to light after the real-life tests.
