Huawei’s new flagship Mate 90 smartphone series and companion models are coming this fall, and the launch month here is expected to be September rather than the November timeline that the company has followed for the past two years.

Mate 90 series launch time has been buzzing in rumors for quite some time. The top-tier lineup is expected to debut earlier this year than the previous two generations.
The Mate phone lineup used to launch between September and October. It has been considered Huawei’s “performance flagship” that brings a new Kirin chip.
The timeline was intact until 2023, when Kirin 5G made its return. Despite the US chip export controls, Huawei managed to bring back its 5G-capable mobile SoCs. But this move didn’t help the company much, especially in chip production.
Kirin 5G volume struggled to meet consumer demand on time, leading to a shipment extension by over a month. Thus, regardless of releasing the Mate 60 series on time in the market, the Mate 70 and 80 series faced a delay in their launch.
Here are the last three Mate series unveiling dates:
- 2025: Tuesday, November 25
- 2024: Tuesday, November 26
- 2023: Tuesday, August 29 (Mate 60 Pro)

But this year, Huawei ramped up the Kirin chip production rapidly. Although the Mate 80 series sales had some difficulties, things went on smoothly when the company once again opened the pre-orders for the Mate 80 Pro Max and RS Ultimate models.
DigitalChatStation said that Huawei Mate 90 series phones will launch as soon as September with the Kirin chip + stable HarmonyOS 7 based on the Tau Scaling Law.
While the company has confirmed the Mate 90 for this fall, it didn’t reveal the exact launch month. Now it would be worth seeing if the new flagship follows the previous two-generation Mate series for release time or gets an early stage this year.
