Huawei Mate XT 2 tri-fold can once again launch ahead of Apple’s new iPhone lineup. A new piece of information says that the Chinese OEM could unveil its next-gen triple foldable smartphone before the release of the upcoming iPhone 18 series.
SmartPikachu on Weibo reveals that Huawei is accelerating the Mate XT 2 tri-fold launch preparations, and it could unveil the creation before the new-gen iPhone models.
If true, it won’t be a new move. Huawei has been launching its triple foldable before new iPhones for the past two years. The first model debuted on 10th September 2024. On the other hand, Mate XTs launched on September 4.
Apple iPhone 16 showed up in China on September 19, trying to overtake the world’s first triple foldable smartphone. But Mate XT’s innovation dimmed Apple’s event.

Things were different with the iPhone 17 models, as the company not only changed its design concept but also adopted powerful camera specifications that outperformed the top 2025 flagship models in the market.
And looks like Huawei will follow the same technique this year as well. It will likely launch the new-generation triple-fold phone ahead of the iPhone 18 series handsets.
Huawei may feature a new form factor for the upcoming tri-fold model. It can use a U-shaped appearance rather than the two-year-old G-shaped with inward + outward folding mechanisms. It may also introduce new imaging sensors.
Rumors have it that the Mate XT 2 could bring a 200MP camera. If it really happens, the company would excel in terms of featuring ultimate imaging tech even in tri-folding phones. Although it’s a matter of time at present.
