Huawei Mate XT 2 tri-fold to introduce meaningful battery boost

Mate XT 2 will be the third Huawei tri-fold and to make it more meaningful, the company is planning a significant battery boost. A new Weibo post hints that the tech giant is considering increasing silicon content for its next triple-foldable’s battery.

FixedFocus reported that the upcoming Huawei will increase silicon content for the Mate XT 2 tri-fold battery for a notable boost. Apart from a new form factor, the company is also enhancing the device’s internal specs to a greater extent.

Silicon composite anodes appeared as a battery breakthrough in the past few years. Companies like Honor have been using this cell strategy since 2025 for their devices.

Looks like Huawei is on its way to heavily use silicon for its devices’ batteries. Silicon replaces the graphite anode in smartphones, improving their power storage and charging performance.

Unlike graphite-based batteries, silicon packs up to 10 times more lithium ions. This way, companies can pack larger battery capacities into the device without making it bulkier.

In addition, silicon content improves the overall conductivity, ensuring that the battery safely handles high-wattage power adapters while keeping devices cooler.

Huawei’s previous-gen triple-foldable phones have a 5600mAh battery. But by increasing the silicon content, the company could introduce a bigger cell pack with more power efficiency to the upcoming Mate XT 2.

The tipster mentioned that Huawei will also use an improved “first screen” panel for the Mate XT 2. Since the company is rumored to alter the device’s original form factor by switching from a G-shaped folding to a U design, it is focusing significantly on the battery’s reliability.

Mate XT 2 can undergo prominent upgrades compared to previous models. After garnering attention for the world’s first wide foldable, the OEM is trying to lock consumers’ eyes on its new tri-fold. More details about this device will become clear in the coming days.
