Mate 80 phones are going through a shortage issue and the reason seems to be in the Huawei production strategy this time! Perhaps the firm delayed the manufacturing of the devices, due to which it faces this shortage phase every year.
A Weibo tipster shed light on this matter. He said:
Usually, a smartphone brand begins production one or two months before the official release time. For instance, if the phone has to be launched in November, it will enter the production stage in August or September to avoid insufficiency.
But looking into certain documents and the shortage of the Mate 80 phones, particularly the Pro Max model, it appears that the new variant entered the full production phase in December.

Simply put, there was no additional stock capacity for the Mate 80 Pro Max due to its first-time appearance in the market. The company prepared only a few units, which sold out immediately, owing to its surprising features.
He predicted that Huawei would probably have produced less than 500,000 Mate 80 series units, out of which the Pro Max could have accounted for only one-third (a few hundred or thousand units before the launch).
As mentioned, a big reason behind this lower capacity can be the first-time debut of a new variant. The company waited to see the market’s response to its 2025 Mate phones.
For now, Huawei has seemingly shifted the shipment date to January 31, 2026, for some Mate 80 models. It is trying to gear up production to meet consumers’ demand on time.
