Huawei is planning something cool for its future phones that might alter the definition of mobile photography – an external zoom camera that will exceed 10x zooming capability. Though it’s unclear when this iconic tech will show up in reality.
DigitalChatStation noted that one of the top five Chinese phone makers is working on a super-dynamic zoom camera technology for its forthcoming flagship handsets.
Following the leak, netizens speculated that Huawei or OPPO could be the main star behind this technology. Perhaps we may witness the tech in late 2026 or 2027.
Speaking of the new imaging tech, the tipster said the specific company is evaluating ultra-high magnification external lenses. This imaging part will be combined with advanced telephoto sensors to take the optical zooming over the 10x mark.

Ultra-high magnification external lenses refer to the additional physical camera sensors applied to a phone for extreme close-up results. The image sensors in these cameras are twice or five times the subject’s actual size.
These are add-on accessories, typically for the telephoto sensor. One can attach to a phone’s built-in camera setup to offer significantly higher levels of optical zoom or magnification. It captures far more detailed shots than a regular smartphone.
And here comes the twist. Huawei might integrate this dynamic ultra-high magnification zoom camera technology into its phones periscope cameras, taking the zoom effects to the next level.
Detailing the points, the tipster said that this excellent concept will lead to a camera powerhouse for mobile photography, delivering the best macro shots with every click.
It’s still unclear which smartphone brand will use this new camera tech for its devices. Though Huawei seems the right choice for this technology at present.
