Huawei retakes the lead in smartphone race after 5 years of struggle: Report

2025 has been a crucial year for Huawei as the company regained its lead in the smartphone race, as per a new report. After struggling for at least 5 years, the tech giant finally reached the pinnacle of the 2025 Chinese smartphone market.

After IDC, Omida has brought its analysis of China’s phone segment for 2025. The overall market is seeing a negligible decline of 1% year-on-year, with a shipment of 282.3 million units.

But the highlight of this report is Huawei, which has taken back its lead in the Chinese smartphone market for 2025. Omida said that after 5 years of constant difficulties and challenges in the path of success, the company is now at its original place.

The company holds 17% of the market share in China, which is 1% jump over the previous year. It has shipped more than 46.8 million smartphones in 2025 and has achieved a profitable growth of 2% year-over-year.

Vivo followed Huawei at the second spot with 46.0 million shipments and 16% of the market share. Apple also has the same amount of share in the market, with 45.9 million units in sales – thanks to its strong demand in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Xiaomi takes fourth place with 43.7 million unit shipments and 15% of the market share. The company is seeing a hike of 4% in the annual growth. And the fifth rank goes to OPPO, which has sold 42.8 million phones last year.

Predicting the Chinese smartphone market’s growth this year, Hou said that he expects 2026 to remain a year of value growth and product innovation, with expansion of artificial intelligence and imaging evolution.
