Huawei Mate 40 series will receive HarmonyOS 6 update: Tipster

Huawei could surprise the Mate 40 series users with a HarmonyOS 6 update, which has been a user demand for a long time. The release time is expected to be somewhere in the second quarter of this year, and the API version may be 22 or 23.

The Mate 40 series was the last Mate flagship phone released before the U.S. sanctions. It features the Kirin 9000 series chipset. Since its release in 2020, the company has sold more than 30 million units, which makes it one of the largest smartphone user bases.

This massive user base has become a significant driving force for system upgrades. On various forums and social media platforms, Mate 40 series’ anticipation for HarmonyOS 6 continues to rise.

From a hardware perspective, the Kirin 9000 series chip uses a 5nm process technology, and its performance is generally sufficient for daily use. On the other hand, this chip makes it fully capable of supporting the operational requirements of the new software.

Huawei has consistently delivered software updates to its devices, providing new features via the OTA method. As for the Mate 40 series, the lineup currently runs HarmonyOS 4.2 update.

The phone equips a powerful camera system, including a 50MP ultra vision camera with f/1.9 aperture, a 20MP ultra-wide angle, and a 12MP telephoto camera with optical image stabilization. The front side has a 13MP ultra vision camera and a 3D depth sensing camera. The phone has a 6.76-inch display with FHD+ resolution and an OLED panel that could ramp up to a 90Hz refresh rate.

The most recent HarmonyOS 4.2.0.192 update for the phones not only brought new security patches but also achieved early compatibility with some HarmonyOS 4.3 home screen features.

The Mate 40 lineup has enjoyed a long term software and security support from the tech company, breaking industry norms. Traditionally, smartphone makers typically provide system support for three to four years, after which these smartphones run without any software support.

Adding HarmonyOS 6 to this phone will give it a new life because it improves 15% smoothness and more than 35 minutes of battery life over HarmonyOS 5. The new OS also brings innovative features, such as an artistic signature on the lock screen, dialect support for the Celia Assistant, and practical features like family-based fraud prevention.

The tipster who leaked this news also appeared to be very confident about the HarmonyOS 6 update rollout for the Huawei Mate 40 series. If so, this could be the biggest loyalty gift for the phone user and a kind example for the other brands to reward their big user bases.
