Xiaomi 18 series is in the development phase with new upgrades for the imaging segment, but one of the major shifts will likely appear in the zoom camera of the vanilla version. It might bring a big periscope change sensor over the Xiaomi 17.
The Standard Xiaomi 17 smartphone doesn’t support an advanced zoom camera, unlike the Pro and Ultra models. Rather, it sticks to a vertical telephoto lens.
It uses a 50MP light + shadow Hunter 950 high dynamic range primary shooter, a 50MP Leica ultrawide-angle lens, and a 50MP Leica floating telephoto camera.
As a result, it lags in the periscope telephoto department compared to other vanilla variants in the market. Although Xiaomi is finally changing this theory.
SmartPikachu noted that Xiaomi is testing a 3x periscope telephoto lens for all the models of the Xiaomi 18 series. The company is working on a quad-camera with a full focal-length for all of the variants in the coming main flagship lineup.

This particular leak hints that the standard Xiaomi 18 will finally receive a major periscope zoom camera upgrade over the predecessor, providing an ultimate macro-photography experience.
Xiaomi fans can expect a better periscope telephoto camera upgrade for the upcoming standard flagship handset. Even though the company hasn’t shed light on this matter yet, the leak has come from a credible tipster.
Apart from the camera department, Xiaomi also has plans for the cover display of the Xiaomi 18 series. It could add more interesting features and AI capabilities to this segment, rivaling 2026 Apple iPhone models.
