Xiaomi prepping native AI-powered HyperOS for its phones

Xiaomi really has some bigger plans for smartphones this year and it may take the first move by developing native AI for its HyperOS. A new piece of information suggests that the company is digging into smarter AI tech for its software system.

SmartPikachu noted that several mobile operating systems are marching towards native AI technology. He further said that we could witness the “prototypes” of these OS(s) later this year.

Interestingly, the tipster has tagged HyperOS in the leak, suggesting that Xiaomi is also making a move for native AI technology. And we might see this change with the upcoming Android 17-based software iteration.

Native AI generally processes everything on the device, unlike other AI features that rely on the Cloud Space and require a special server for data processing.

The Native AI technology doesn’t need any external equipment but relies on the phone’s NPU (Neural Processing Unit) and certain other AI chips to operate efficiently.

Being a completely on-device process, native AI offers a significant boost to the device’s performance and speed without needing a stable internet connection.

Moreover, your data, such as images, videos, voice recordings, and other important details, never leaves your phone for being processed in a separate server. Thus, your privacy and security are not harmed by the native AI technology.

If we go with the release timeline of this new creation, it may debut with the Xiaomi 18 series, offering a true native AI experience to users. Though the news requires an official confirmation before reaching the conclusion point.
