Honor Magic 9 could bring back this powerful camera technology

Honor Magic 9 series will bring several interesting camera features to the table and at the same time, it could bring back a very prominent imaging technology – LOFIC. A new leak sheds light on reviving a powerful lens component on Magic flagships.

SmartPikachu revealed that Honor will reintroduce the LOFIC camera technology for the Magic 9 series. If true, this will be a significant upgrade to the new lineup.

The Chinese phone maker launched LOFIC imaging tech with the Magic 6 RSR and Ultimate Edition in 2024. These phones were the first in the industry to debut with a DSLR-like super dynamic eagle-eye camera-based LOFIC technology.

Over the years, the company skipped this tech for its top smartphones in favor of other amazing camera features, powered by AI functionalities. But it seems Honor is planning to renew this tech with the upcoming Magic handsets.

LOFIC is the full form of Lateral OverFlow Integration Capacitor. It uses a high-density capacitor in each photodiode of the phone’s imaging lens to gather photoelectrons; else, they might overflow due to saturation.

As a result, if the number of photoelectrons exceeds its capacity, the tech extracts these excess photoelectrons flow into adjacent capacitors. Thus, the sensor preserves the highlight information in shooting even better than normal sensors.

Honor may further enhance this technology for the Magic 9 series. But what exact changes it will make to it are currently uncertain. There’s still a lot of time in the launch of the new-gen flagship, and till then, we may get more details on this topic.

Magic 9 series is rumored to launch with the latest OmniVision camera sensor. This particular addition could enhance the overall photography to a greater extent.

Let’s see if Honor will really bring back LOFIC technology this year with the new flagship or wait for 2027!
