Apple and Huawei both are making quite similar “wide foldable” phones for 2026. The two brands are seemingly ready for a head-on-head war in the best horizontal clamshell race. While the former is launching its first creation with amazing specs, the latter has been the champion in the wide fold form factor in 2025!
DigitalChatStation recently revealed the Pura X activation models in the Chinese market at present. In addition, he dropped hints at a showdown coming later this year.
The tipster mentioned that both Huawei and Apple are readying their new wide foldable smartphones for 2026. These two will probably be the only brands in the market this year with a true “broad” flip-folding device.
Besides, the other top five manufacturers like Honor, OPPO, and more are in the news to join the “wide foldable” trend by next year with their iconic fold creations.
Interestingly, Huawei and Apple seem to have the same form factor for their wide folding devices. Pura X2 will follow the design of its predecessor with notable changes in the camera module and the overall size in folded and unfolded formats.
On the other hand, the iPhone Fold could launch as a book-flip model. Recently leaked mockup designs of the first Apple foldable show that the device can be bigger than the Pura X but will showcase a similar look, just like its Chinese competitor.

Neither Huawei nor Apple has revealed the appearance of their upcoming foldables yet. Hence, it won’t be right to jump to conclusions based on mere leaks. Though these inputs hint at a big face-off in the coming months, especially in terms of design.
