Apple has been in rumors to use downgraded specs for its standard iPhone 18 model and it seems some Chinese phone brands may also adopt Apple’s strategy in the future. A new leak suggests big and probably disappointing shifts for base smartphone variants.
iPhone maker was earlier said to use previous-generation specifications for its upcoming models – specifically the standard and Pro handsets. While the reason was unclear, it appeared to be a strategy to maintain a subtle price for consumers.
Weibo tipster @FixedFocus has now revealed that not only iPhone 18, but some Chinese phone brands might also utilize Apple’s “downgraded specs” move for the standard models.
In simple words, almost all specifications of the vanilla version in any lineup can be identical to the last generation model. Meanwhile, the brands will likely focus on upgrading the top-end variants of a series with first-class specs and tech capabilities.

According to the tipster, the reason behind this move is to reduce the extra cost expenditures. Memory shortage and its increased prices have already forced many phone makers to raise the cost of even existing models and the upcoming ones.
Thus, the companies might use “downgraded specs” as a significant solution to deal with the ongoing tension in the consumer market.
Note that the tipster didn’t shed light on a specific brand in this case. Hence, it is better to wait for an official revelation on this matter from any Chinese phone maker to see how far the current leak matches the reality.
