Mate 80 RS Ultimate is the only Huawei smartphone that supports 20GB RAM and it looks like the company will soon bring this RAM variant to the Pura 90 series as well. Not only Pura, but other flagships may also get this ultimate addition in the future.
SuperDimensional noted that Huawei could normalize the use of 20GB RAM for its flagship phones in the future, and the trend will begin with the Pura 90 handsets.
Up to last year, Huawei’s largest RAM option used to be 16GB RAM. The company has offered the variant to the high-end models of its flagship smartphone lineup.
But things changed when the OEM launched the Mate 80 RS Ultimate last year with the 20GB RAM variant. Other Mate 80 siblings continued to feature 16GB and 12GB options, as usual.
RAMs are not only responsible for faster gaming or device performance, but also for smooth multitasking, quick app loading, and a better experience for intense operations. It equally contributes to boosting the chipset’s performance.
Besides, high-density RAM amplifies GPU performance, which eventually supports imaging sensors as well as enables them utilize their full potential while processing images.
Perhaps the company can use this strategy to uplift its chip performance for flagship devices and enhance the overall user experience. And this step may begin with the Pura 90 smartphones.
Apart from the 2026 Pura lineup, the Pura X2 foldable is also on the list to use 20GB RAM. The tipster further mentioned that 512GB internal storage is currently enough for all phones. Though Huawei may soon standardize a 1TB option as well.
20GB RAM is just the beginning. The company is in rumors to launch a 24GB RAM smartphone in the future. It may gradually increase the figure in the coming years to double the performance level of its devices.
