Honor has already leveled up the bar for smartphones when it comes to battery in 2025, and looks like the upcoming flagship – the Magic 9 Pro will raise the standard of camera competition in 2026. Interestingly, the recent leaks have some proof to it.
After the successful launch of the Magic 8 series, Honor has now started working on the next-gen Magic 9 and 9 Pro smartphones with the latest camera technologies.
Perhaps the Magic 9 series will definitely uplift the camera game this year as it is testing OmniVision’s latest imaging sensor – OVB0D. This is a new 200MP primary snapper that has a 1.1-inch size and will debut as the best alternative to Sony lenses.
OmniVision OVB0D camera relies on advanced DCG+ (Dual Conversion Gain) LOFIC technology. It reads the same light data twice within a single exposure, once with a high gain for shadows or low light and once with low gain (bright light).
Further, it blends these two signals to generate one image with a much wider dynamic range, richer details, and cleaner highlights + shadows, eliminating the usual frame stacking issues.
The tech promises an excellent dynamic range of up to 108dB. It has a dual on-chip reconstruction architecture compared to Sony’s complex QQBC framework.
Being the latest 200MP main camera sensor in the smartphone market, OmniVision OVB0D will surely have some crazy imaging functions to offer over the previous-gen or traditional 200MP lenses.
And these new imaging add-ons may appear with Magic 9 Pro later this year. Honor hasn’t revealed its plans for the upcoming flagship lineup yet, as it is already busy with some top-end models like the Magic 8 Pro Air and the RSR Porsche.
On the flip side, the company has an Ultra model in the pipeline, which may show up on stage by the end of H1 2025. Hence, there is still time to see if the current rumors for the Magic 9 Pro will turn out to be true in the future.
Though based on the Magic 8 Pro’s camera performance, we can expect that the new-gen Honor flagship will take the 200MP camera competition to the next level.
