Honor optimizes Magic 8 series camera, system and network with new MagicOS update

Honor has released the MagicOS 10.0.0.118 update for Magic 8 series smartphones, bringing a bunch of new camera optimizations. Other than the camera, the update focuses on improving the AI features as well as other software-rich features.

After this update, the camera app automatically identifies people and the environment in the preview image, and recommends better composition references. It provides guidance on poses and shooting angles to help users easily capture a better shot.

This feature can be accessed through the AI assistant after entering Photo or Portrait mode in the camera UI. Additionally, a new AI High-Res Portrait feature has been added to the app, which automatically enables after the rear camera recognizes a person, which ramps up portrait quality and enhances the bokeh effect in nighttime photography.

The night mode is also upgraded with two new style options – City and Landscape. The City style enhances the contrast between warm and cool colors and the atmosphere of lighting, highlighting outlines and the layers of light and shadow. The Landscape style enhances the blue tones, creating a tranquil and artistic composition.

The camera will improve the accuracy of skin tones in portraits in some situations, indoor color reproduction, foreground details in moon mode, and the sharpness, as well as telephoto lens focus speed. Furthermore, the startup speed of video recording has been increased, while improving more efficiency of portrait image output.

In terms of networking, Honor’s file sharing feature is receiving and UX overhaul. The sharing panel interface has been redesigned, allowing shared devices to be quickly discovered without requiring them to be reopened. It improves the ease of access for cross-device file transfer.

The system has received optimizations for the headphones connection pop-up while reducing the interface for immersive use. This update optimizes apps such as TikTok to run them more fluidly and smoothly.

Another side of the firmware targets the control center’s collapse animation response rate, making it short but smoother while expanding on top of the home screen. Moreover, the launch efficiency of third-party apps has been improved.

The new camera optimizations, along with the system and network for the Honor Magic 8 series, are released in batches and will expand over time.
