Huawei is cooking new plans to enhance Pura 90 series’ performance over its predecessor. The firm is aiming to give a prominent boost to its 2026 flagship in terms of operational fluency and functionality. Interestingly, this move isn’t related to a simple chip upgrade but involves a big change!
Five years of the US ban impacted the entire chip progress of Huawei. As a result, the company is still unable to develop advanced 5G smartphone SoCs.
Since it can’t access cutting-edge chipmaking technologies, it took another direction – software capabilities. The company made its own operating system, HarmonyOS NEXT, eventually contributing to chip performance and overall efficiency.
Although it looks like Huawei has a new factor that can help it upshift the performance level of the Pura 90 series – RAM! Yes, the company could use a 20GB RAM for the upcoming flagship, enhancing the processing power to new heights.
The company first used this strategy with the Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design launched last year. While the Mate 80 and Pro models used 16GB RAM, the RS variant debuted as the first Huawei smartphone with 20GB RAM.
Now it seems Huawei is ready to use higher RAM for future flagships as well, including the Pura 90 series. If not all models, we may see a 20GB RAM for the Ultra variant.
How does RAM contribute to chip performance?
RAM refers to Random Access Memory. It is responsible for enhancing multitasking speed and making every move smoother. At the same time, it acts as a high-speed component in the device.

Simply put, RAM becomes a temporary workspace for the CPU and allows near-distant data access compared to slower storage drives. Bigger RAMs like 20GB further provide seamless multitasking + manage demanding apps without any lag.
Overall, RAM can amplify the speed of app launches, app operations, optimize gaming speed, and improve the data transfer rates to the CPU.
If Huawei uses the higher RAM + strong chip strategy for the Pura 90, the devices will surely bring a robust performance upgrade over the previous-gen handsets.
