Huawei, OPPO, Xiaomi, and many other smartphone vendors are in the news for majorly focusing on the big foldables this year instead of the small flip-flop ones. Perhaps the reason behind this shift could be Apple’s entry into the folding device arena.
DigitalChatStation stated that “OVMHh” has released new foldable phones this year, but most of them are large horizontal folds. He further questioned, “Are users still waiting for smaller foldable phones?” to check consumers’ response.
The term “OVMHh” refers to the top five phone makers: OPPO, Vivo, Xiaomi, Huawei, and Honor, who are currently prioritizing big foldables this year.
If true, this could be a cause behind the Huawei Pura X2 launch delay rumors, as the company is aiming towards new book-type folding phones, probably like the Mate X.

OPPO is working on the Find N6 foldable that will debut around mid-March this year. Meanwhile, Vivo is developing the X Fold 6, which will likely launch in the second quarter of this year. Xiaomi seems to have two book-type foldables:
- Mix TriFold
- Xiaomi 17 Fold
While Honor will showcase its first 2026 foldable – Magic V6 at the MWC event, it also has a mysterious “wide folding device”, probably against the Apple iPhone Fold.
For now, it’s unclear what Huawei is thinking in this aspect. The Chinese tech giant is reportedly working on the Pura X2. But based on the leaks, this foldable will adopt a bigger and wider appearance, forming a large folding smartphone.
The tipster didn’t reveal any other details about the upcoming foldables, except for all Chinese brands are now focusing on the big folding devices to win the game over Apple’s first-ever fold phone. Let’s wait and see what we’ll get in the fold segment this year.
