Huawei has officially announced that the Mate 80 series and Mate X7 foldable phones can’t wirelessly charge two of its smartwatches due to technological incompatibility.
Huawei’s flagship phone comes with advanced 100W super-fast charging and 80W wireless charging. These two capabilities make the phone extremely convenient for user experience and daily use. However, these phones also support a hidden feature called wireless reverse charging, which has been part of Huawei’s flagship phone ecosystem for years now.
Users can share the phone’s power with wearables by placing them on the back of the phone. Yet new changes in Huawei’s charging module have made things difficult for the latest smartwatches.

It’s revealed that the Huawei Watch 5, Fit 4, and GT 6 can’t wirelessly charge through the Mate 80 series or Mate X7 because it now requires a charger accessory. The company has shared no explanation whatsoever, but previous information can help us understand this matter.
Back in June, Huawei published a statement about replacing the wireless charging feature in smartwatches released after May 2025. These watches use new wireless charging modules; their compact design reduces weight, enabling a thinner watch and improving the user experience.
This upgrade advocates a compact coil layout, which is placed differently within the watch compared to previous models. This makes the newly released watch only compatible with the 2nd-gen wireless charging dock.
Due to changes in the charging coil layout and design upgrades to these new smartwatches, the Huawei Mate 80 series and Mate X7 can’t pair well for reverse wireless charging, and the situation may persist for the upcoming flagship phones.
Therefore, the tech maker is advising customers to use the Huawei Watch wireless charging dock to charge the smartwatches.
