Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 phone is on its way and will hit the market in the coming months, but it seems Huawei is already readying a rival to this model – the Mate X8 flagship, and might outshine the 2026 Galaxy Fold in the display size battle.
A credible tipster said that Huawei has started working on the next-gen large foldable phone – the Mate X8, and one of the biggest shifts in this model can be the display.
DigitalChatStation revealed that the Huawei Mate X8 could feature bigger screen panels. Interestingly, it may not only surpass its predecessor but also a strong rival.
The leak highlights an 8.15-inch inner screen and a cover display of 6.5 inches for the Mate X8. Besides, the foldable may bring a new 50MP main camera with a 1/1.3-inch sensor size.
In addition, the device could feature a 2-in-1 motor, probably for better haptics (vibration module). Following the leak, some netizens speculated Kirin 9040 chip for the flagship foldable. But the eye-catching part can be the screen.

Early details suggest that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 can bring a huge 8-inch main screen and a 6.5-inch cover display. The sizes are similar, and the company might not change them as it is rumored to be working on a dual-UTG tech for its fold.
But the scenario is different for Huawei. Last year, the Chinese tech giant launched the Mate X7 with an 8-inch internal screen and a 6.49-inch external display. While the screens were bigger than the previous year’s model, it lost the game to Samsung.
Although this time, Huawei could surprise everyone with even bigger and wider screen panels. Whether the Chinese OEM will also use a customized display technology – better than the predecessor for the Mate X8, just like Samsung, would be worth looking at.
