Foldable phones are making a new wave of development, and Huawei is planning to maintain its lead in this segment with Mate X8, featuring a larger display.
Tipster Digital Chat Station has shared information about two unreleased phones, which are expected to belong to Huawei. The first is a wide-fold, anticipated as a Pura X2. Though the previous report hints that this name may not get adopted for the second wide fold iteration from the phone maker.
The second phone is a side-fold with a next-gen chipset. The name of the chip remains unknown, but it could be a polished Kirin with higher performance, especially for AI features.
The tipster mentioned that a test device 50MP 1/1.3-inch main camera sensor. This will evolve photos and videos and bring increased brightness and sharper pixel quality. Mate X-series has been bringing premium camera specs for years, and adding a large sensor will provide it with another boost in this important feature.
That’s not it, Huawei is planning to slim the camera components, so that the camera bump could be reduced. Still, info is lacking on the bump design that remains in effect.

Large screens
A key improvement to this year’s Huawei Mate X8 would be the screens, expanding to 8.15 inches on the foldable side and 6.5 inches on the cover. Compared to this, the last generation had an 8-inch foldable and a 6.49-inch cover screen. So, Huawei will enlarge the internal and external display of the Mate X8 this year. The upgrade may not be big, but it’s subtle. Furthermore, the phone maker may have some interesting design changes to facilitate this move.
Implementing a tiniest display upgrade could have a positive impact on the viewing experience, such as viewing videos or doing multi-tasking.
It’s expected that the Huawei Mate X8 will launch in the second half of this year with the Pura X2 wide fold. However, an official launch date is awaited.
