Huawei Mate XT survives a drop test that Samsung TriFold can’t


Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design was the first widely sold trifold smartphone, and it has recently survived a drop test that is so reckless that it should have ended the device in one attempt.

Tipster IceUniverse has shared a video of a user throwing the Huawei foldable on the floor with applied force. First, the user completely unfolded the device and threw it on the surface with the display facing downwards. This scenario repeated at least four times. Then the user did the same while fully folding the device, and again, the foldable display side was facing the floor.

After each drop, the user verified the phone’s functionality, and surprisingly, the phone not only did not receive any damage, but it was also working fine. The screen has its pixels fully showing, and the touch was responding with each tap and swipe. As if the phone does not affect the things that the user is putting it through.

This was an intentional test to showcase the design and structural strength of this foldable, which isn’t expected from the foldable segment. The user also showed the phone from the back with no visible sign of damage to the screen or the hardware. It may have some bruises, but given the assault that the Mate XT endured, the device should have stopped responding very early.

The reason for this durability is Huawei’s Ultimate Design standards applied to its devices. The phone uses a 10.2-inch 3k resolution display. It is made of multi-directional flexible materials that come with immense bend resistance.

With this improvement, the screen can resist compression when folded inward and tension when folded outward. That’s not it, the screen adopts a Composite Screen Structure with non-Newtonian fluid materials and large UTG glass, which improves impact-resistant.

A foldable phone is nothing without a strong hinge system, and it plays an even bigger role in a dual hinge design for this trifold. Its advanced hinge system has an inward hinge that contains a sliding track, and an outward hinge that contains an intricate structure. The two works in combination for fluid foldable actions.

Its core components are made of high-strength steel with a strength of 1900 MPa. This strength comes into play when the device is embraced for an impact and keeps the core components attached.
