Huawei today unveiled an iPad mini rival on the global stage – the MatePad Mini, challenging Apple’s dominance in the small tablet market. The new device is here with a compact screen and an interesting experience for all tablet lovers.
MatePad Mini showed up first in China at the Mate 80 series launch event. The tablet device has impressed everyone with its tiny size, yet excellent features.
In the latest edition, Huawei has unveiled the “Mini” MatePad tablet in the global markets. For those looking for a phone + tab model, this device is the right choice.
A small comparison between the MatePad Mini and iPad mini shows that the former has a better, slimmer design with ultra-narrow bezels around the screen. It is bigger than the iPad mini and supports 1800 nits peak brightness. Huawei’s creation is also steps ahead in camera and battery.
Design + Colors
The Global Huawei MatePad Mini continues the same design with a few omissions in color options. It comes in Spruce Green and Obsidian Black shades. Besides, the device measures 198.59 x 127.27 x 5.1mm and weighs 255 grams.

Display: Huawei MatePad Mini equips an 8.8-inch Flexible OLED full screen with a 2560 x 1600 pixels resolution, 343PPI, 92% screen ratio, P3 wide color gamut, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 1.07 billion colors. It uses the PaperMatte display technology that offers the following benefits:

Camera
Huawei MatePad Mini tablet debuts with a dual camera setup, housed in a giant round ring at the back. The setup includes a 50MP primary lens and an 8MP ultrawide-angle lens with a single LED Flash. The front part uses a 32MP selfie shooter to ensure efficient video conferencing when needed.
Battery (could change)
MatePad Mini takes on the iPad Mini with a 6400mAh cell pack coupled to a 66W fast wired charging. It has a 3D heat dissipation solution and a side fingerprint sensor for unlocking purposes.
The device has also brought the support of M-Pencil Pro and a special Folio cover for the MatePad Mini.
