Huawei and MTN have jointly launched the Alpha Antennas in Africa. Both companies have completed the world’s first large-scale commercial deployment of these antennas in Ghana. It seems a new step towards the transformation of mobile networks towards intelligence and AI-driven technologies.
MTN Group is a multinational mobile telecommunications firm and the largest mobile network operator in Africa. It has been associated with the Chinese company for several solutions to enhance the network experience for African users.
In the latest edition, Huawei and MTN have done the real-world testing of Alpha Antennas in Africa. The results reveal that the network traffic in the deployment area has increased by 6.8% with the new antennas.
Besides, the overall maintenance efficiency improved by up to 30 times. It has set a new benchmark for the large-scale network antenna in Africa as well as worldwide.
According to the details, Alpha Antennas have built-in AISU (Antenna Information Sensor Unit), which enables automatic and accurate transmission of antenna parameters. Moreover, it supports AIMU (Array Information Mapping Unit) to offer real-time and precise visualization of topology bonds.
These two tech components eliminate traditional manual tower climbing methods and optimization failures caused by manual configuration errors. It also has multi-dimensional beam adjustment that helps network to adapt coverage and capacity as per real-time service needs.
With Alpha Antennas, Huawei is providing a digital + intelligent base for MTN to develop advanced autonomous driving networks (ADN) and enable network self-healing and self-optimization.
