Looks like Huawei is up with major changes in its software circle for the very special HarmonyOS 8 iteration. A new report suggests that the OEM could skip an entire software version – HarmonyOS 7 and will directly unveil the 8.0 build in 2028.
SuperDimensional has shared a screenshot, claiming it to be an official piece of information by Huawei. The page shows that the OpenHarmony 6.1 will likely be released by March 30 with a certification deadline for March 30th, 2028.
In addition, the page reveals that the OpenHarmony 8.1 version might release by 30 March, 2028. Following the details, the tipster said Huawei could skip HarmonyOS 7 in 2027, and directly launch the 8.0 version in 2028 with big surprises.
Describing the software shifts, the tipster mentioned that mature software components don’t require frequent updates. Only the imperfect ones continue to undergo repeated changes.
The new information sparked a new discussion among netizens. Some of them asked if the HarmonyOS 8 version will unlock more stable and safer features over the current version. Others questioned the accuracy of this new piece of information.

Notably, the tipster highlighted in the comment section that the new build number – 6.0.0.328 beta is the actual HarmonyOS 6 upgrade, whereas the official version of this beta program will likely be termed as HarmonyOS 6.1 software upgrade.
Huawei hasn’t announced any such software shifts yet, nor has it opted for such an approach to date. Hence, there is a chance that these details may alter according to the company’s strategy based on new products and the rollout sequence.
HuaweiCentral’s Take
There doesn’t seem to be any special reason for skipping HarmonyOS 7 in favor of HarmonyOS 8. Earlier, rumors said that Huawei may skip an entire foldable generation – Mate X7 and launch Mate X8 instead, as 7 is an unlucky number in Chinese culture.
Although nothing as such happened. Therefore, we should wait for some official words on this matter before jumping to conclusions.
