Huawei prepping new PC chip with big upgrades, but there’s a catch

Apart from new smartphone SoCs, Huawei is reportedly preparing a new PC chip with some significant upgrades. The company will likely launch this processor with the flagship notebooks this year. But there’s a catch with its release window.

Weibo tipster @GuoJing revealed that Huawei has a new PC chip in the pipeline with major upgrades over the previous-generation. While he did not mention the key changes compared to the X90 processors, it may be about performance.

Huawei unveiled its first PC chipset last year with HarmonyOS PCs. It debuted with 10 cores and 20-thread architecture, featuring 8 cores of 2.31GHz, 12 cores of 2.05GHz, and a Maleoon 916 GPU with a level 2 security and reliability certificate.

Later, the company unveiled the Kirin X90A processor as an optimized version of the first-gen PC chipset. It has 8 cores and 16 threads with a core configuration of 4 cores @ 1.80GHz, 6 cores @ 1.85GHz, and 6 cores @ 2.07GHz + Maleoon 910B GPU.

Both chips claimed to deliver the best operation fluency in every aspect. Now, Huawei is up with the second-generation PC chipset and will likely integrate major upgrades to boost its performance to the next level.

However, there’s a catch!

According to the tipster, the Chinese tech giant will delay the launch of this new PC chip. Even though he didn’t mention the exact release time of the processor, he said – “The new PC chip may be postponed again”.

It’s not the first time that the company has shifted the official release of its PC processors. Huawei did the same with the X90 series. Although the reason behind this delay could be the addition of more enhancements before the real experience.

Perhaps the OEM is once again taking time to make a more improved PC chipset compared to the previous-generation. We may soon get more details on its release time. Stay tuned.
