Looks like the Huawei Pura 90 series phones could bring back years-old color approach in 2026 – gradient finish on the back. The company has introduced this color technique with the P20 lineup and may show it once again with the upcoming flagship.
Weibo tipster @FixedFocus noted that the Huawei Pura 90 series will use a gradient-finish back panel. While the top-tier may continue the triangle look on the rear side, it could show a major shift in terms of colors and shimmery patterns.
Following the leak, a netizen said the Huawei Pura 90 can show P20-like gradients this time. It would be a really different approach, recalling the classic appearance.
Gradient refers to a visual effect where one color smoothly and gradually blends into one or more colors, creating a seamless and continuous transition between shades.

Huawei P20 series, launched in 2018, features a premium, glossy glass back panel with a gradient finish. It includes super stunning colors like a Twilight (purple-blue gradient), Midnight Blue, Black, Pink Gold, and a Champagne Gold variant.
As per previous details, Huawei designers took the inspiration for the P20 series gradient twist from Monet’s Sunrise painting that shows a perfect texture of flowing light and shadow.

The OEM has used the shimmer touch in many aspects of its devices. One of the recent examples is the Pura 80 Ultra, which highlights a gold shade. However, this time, it seems to have different plans.
If not the same colors, Huawei will likely copy-paste the iconic gradient technique for the Pura 90 smartphones, offering a more layered visual experience to users.
