Huawei Pura 90 series smartphones could bring dual 3D biometric face + fingerprint features. The 2026 lineup was expected to debut with a three-dimensional face verification tool but looks like it has more to offer in terms of security.
Weibo tipster @SmartPikachu noted that Huawei is now testing a 3D fingerprint sensor for the Pura 90 series, taking its security features to a whole new level.
An early report suggested that Huawei will finally bring the long-awaited 3D Face Recognition for the 2026 Pura lineup. It would be the first time the company would break the monopoly of Mate’s 3D facial verification technology.
But the latest leak hints at a new addition – a 3D fingerprint sensor. If true, it would be a major upgrade over the previous-generation Pura smartphones.

For comparison, the Pura 80 series uses a side-mounted fingerprint sensor instead of an in-display 3D one. Such sensors are usually locked in the power button. As a result, it lets you open the phone directly, without even showing the lock screen.
On the other hand, the 3D fingerprint sensors use ultrasonic technology and offer superior security. They are anti-spoofing and deliver better accuracy even in tough conditions, such as wet or dirty fingers.
This particular technology also brings deeper finger details like mapping all ridges and valleys of the finger for higher reliability. In case you are someone who enjoys touching the screen to unlock the device, then Pura 90 can be a perfect fit.
It’s unclear if Huawei will revive this feature for all Pura 90 models or only the Pro+ and Ultra variants. Though if it happens, the Pura 90 will become a dual 3D biometric security feature device. We may soon grab more revelations on this matter.
