Huawei plans to use new cameras in the Pura 90 series. The company is working on its first flagship smartphone lineup for 2026 and the latest findings on this matter reveal the potential imaging sensor distribution alongside crucial changes.
Weibo leaker @DigitalChatStation revealed possible cameras for the Huawei Pura 90. The OEM is testing imaging sensors from two brands: OmniVision and SmartSens.
Note that while earlier Huawei phones used OmniVision camera lenses, the situation changed with the Pura 80 series last year as the company shifted towards SmartSens.
According to the tipster, the engineering sample of the Pura 90 is going through A/B testing. This particular phase involves comparing two or more hardware parts with real users to determine which version performs better in achieving specific goals.
Under this testing, Huawei is testing a 40nm OV52A camera and a 22nm SCC80XS imaging sensor. While both camera lenses are of the same size, SmartSens has higher hardware parameters than the OmniVision camera.
OV52A: It is the latest creation of OmniVision and is expected to go live in the first half of this year. It is a 200MP camera sensor designed for both main and periscope lenses with a 1/1.28-inch size, 0.61µm pixel size, and 2×2 RMSC technology.
The particular sensor is versatile and can enhance light capturing as well as image quality. Thus, consumers get sharper, clearer, and brighter shots.
SCC80XS: It is a groundbreaking 200MP ultra-high-definition CMOS image sensor, based on the SmartClarity-SL Pro platform. It offers significant improvements in resolution, sensitivity, dynamic range, and power efficiency.
Furthermore, the lens supports 2x (50MP) and 4x (12.5MP) in-sensor zoom for flexible and full-focus image capture, ranging from near to far distances. Know More.
The testing is live, and Huawei has yet to decide the new camera sensors for its 2026 Pura lineup. Perhaps it may use both lenses for different Pura variants.

Sensor Split:
OmniVision – a US-founded firm, which now operates as a subsidiary after acquiring by Chinese investors, and focuses on strengthening its China supply chain for image sensors. Though Huawei left the firm in 2025, going self-reliant.
SmartSens, on the other hand, is a Chinese company, working on a primary large-format sensor. Huawei moved away from Sony and OmniVision last year for SmartSens main lens.
It would be worth seeing whether Huawei uses OmniVision or SmartSens or both camera sensors for the Pura 90 series.
