Huawei testing dual-layer OLED for PCs following smartphones

Huawei has reportedly started evaluating dual-layer OLED for PCs. After large-screen tablets and flagship smartphones, the company plans to expand the cutting-edge display technology to more products, enhancing the viewing experience.

Weibo tipster @SmartPikachu noted that, after phones, Huawei started testing dual-layer OLED panels for large tablets and PCs, with a launch coming later this year.

If the current leak is to be believed, it would be the first time an OEM will use a double-layer OLED screen on notebooks. Even though Huawei has already used this technology with phones and tablets, using it for PCs is a different approach.

The Chinese phone maker brought a dual-layer OLED to the MatePad Pro 12.2 in 2024. The tech was combined with a cloud-clear soft light panel that led to ultra-high brightness and contrast with high durability of the display panel.

Dual-layer OLED also ensures anti-glare, anti-fingerprint, and anti-reflection properties. It reduces 99% of interference light and makes the picture clearer even under sunlight. The overall field vision is also pure and more focused.

Dual-layer OLED for phones

Later that year, Huawei introduced the impressive display technology to the Mate 70 RS Ultimate – a smartphone for the first time. The flagship attained a lot of traction for its impressive and robust screen panel.

While Huawei was expected to continue the use of dual-layer OLED with the Pura 80 Ultra as well, it ditched the model due to some unknown reasons and launched it again with the Mate 80 RS, taking the brightness to 8000 nits this time!

After fruitful results of the new display technology for phones and tablets, Huawei is seemingly ready to introduce it to the PC lineup. It is currently unclear which MateBook will be the first to get this benefit. Though we may see the new creation in the first half of this year.
