Huawei tops Qualcomm in Global 5G Standard Patents ranking


A new report by ETSI shows that Huawei has topped the latest global 5G standard essential patents ranking. The company has surpassed the top-end competitors like Qualcomm, LG, Nokia, and Ericsson in this race with its ultimate technologies.

ETSI refers to the European Telecommunications Standards Institute. It is an independent firm that generates worldwide applicable standards for ICT products.

The institute ensures the interoperability and supports innovation for mobile phones with 4G, 5G, broadcasting, and cybersecurity. It is mainly recognized by the EU.

It has recently shared the list of top companies in the global 5G standard patents technology, and Huawei has secured the first rank. The Chinese tech giant continues to dominate the patent department, surpassing firms like Qualcomm and LG.

As per the listing, the company holds a total of 11314 patents (Chinese + global). It really has some innovative patents related to phones, smart cars, smartwatches, and more. Its constant efforts and high R&D investments keep it ahead in the race.

Qualcomm ranked second with 8448 patents, and LG appeared in third place with 7442 patent applications. The top five rankers include Huawei, Qualcomm, LG, Nokia, and Ericsson.

A clear view of the patent list shows that most of the companies belong to China. No doubt, Huawei, Xiaomi, and other Chinese firms will continue to explore more high-end technologies that can add to their and the country’s growth in the patent segment.
