Xiaomi phone users have been eagerly waiting for lock screen widgets and HyperOS 4.0 could be the wait-ending upgrade for them! A new piece of information says that the firm may introduce a long-awaited feature with the next software iteration.
Lock screen widgets first debuted on Android with the 4.2 version. But Google has completely removed the amazing feature starting with the Android 5.0 operating system.
Even though Android 16 brings the lock screen widgets to phones, many tech vendors have kept this feature away from their devices. One of them is Xiaomi!
XiaomiTime noted that the reason behind this skip was the new software framework. Perhaps, certain codes and software links in the HyperOS didn’t fit with Android 16 at that point. Hence, the company didn’t bring lock screen widgets.
Although it looks like Xiaomi will introduce lock screen widgets to its phones with HyperOS 4.0. As noted by XiaomiTime, the company might use the following rules to implement the respective feature on its devices:
- Lock screen widgets may have system-level support based on Android 16 APIs
- These widgets will mainly focus on Xiaomi services, smart home/car controls.
- Minimal design and styles for widgets
- Battery and performance updates on the widgets
Note that Xiaomi hasn’t mentioned any such integration to its smartphones yet. Hence, let’s take this input with a grain of salt at present and wait for more revelations on this matter.
