After the Mate X7, Huawei has started working on a next-gen Pura foldable smartphone that may debut in Q1 2026. The OEM reportedly began testing the new device with some new capabilities and a super-powerful Kirin 5G processor.
The company has been preparing for a new widescreen folding phone. The device was expected to be the Premium Edition of the Pura X handset. But a recent input suggests major shifts in this strategy.
SmartPikachu noted that Huawei is testing a new-gen Pura X foldable and will debut it in Q1 2026. The device may probably have a wider screen this time with better visual enhancements. It may come with a more durable folding mechanism.
Besides, the new foldable will likely feature the most robust Kirin processor to date – Kirin 9030. Huawei has introduced the chip with the Mate 80 Pro smartphone.
- Kirin 9030: 2 large cores @ 2.75GHz + 4 medium cores @ 1.72GHz + 6 small cores @ 2.27GHz
- GPU: Maleoon 935
The tipster didn’t reveal many details about the new vertical folding phone. But it has tagged the Pura X in the leak, suggesting that the upcoming device will belong to the Huawei Pura family.

As per the Kirin chip version, the company will likely release a new-gen model instead of a Premium Edition. Other changes and upgrades of this folding device are currently uncertain. But we may find them in the coming weeks.
Pura X debuts in March this year. The device is the first of its kind with a 16:10 wide screen and an interesting camera design. With a bigger screen and amazing features, the company twisted the philosophy of crafting a small vertical foldable.
Meanwhile, it has debuted with a newly designed Kirin 9020 5G chip, taking the performance graph to new heights. Let’s see what changes will appear with the next-gen Pura foldable.
