Nokia recently praised the EU’s ban move against Huawei, as it believes that the Chinese tech giant is just becoming unstoppable and stealing its business growth. One of the company’s officials has shared a statement on this crucial topic.
Justin Hotard, the CEO of Nokia, welcomed the EU ban against Huawei for better growth in the business world. The executive said that it was a very important step to build a trusted network architecture in the region.
Europe has recently planned a new move against Huawei – banning the Chinese tech giant from the bloc’s mobile network through the advanced cybersecurity rules.
Following this step, Nokia welcomed the rule as according to the Finnish telecom company, Huawei’s constant presence is quite problematic for its growing business.
Nokia witnessed a market share fall of 5% in Helsinki and a drop of 18% in its annual revenue growth since October last year. It also suffered a big loss in the US market share – one of its most profitable places in 2025, before Justin took the seat.
Hence, Justin Hotard said:
“I think, for Europe, this is a very good and important step, because building a trusted network is critical for sovereignty.”
Justin further adds that Huawei’s European business in sectors where Nokia competes is worth between €2 billion ($2.4 billion) and €2.5 billion ($3 billion) in annual revenues. That suggests Huawei is actually good at taking on opportunities.
Not only Nokia, but also Ericsson believes that the Chinese vendors like Huawei own a market share of between 33 to 40% in Europe. It says the mentioned share is a sizeable revenue opportunity for trusted vendors.
After the new ban rules, Nokia is focusing on participating in those markets that value the company’s technology. At the same time, it will seek to integrate with Western technology as a strategic and important part of its networks.
