The HarmonyOS operating system continues to break growth records, and a new figure shows that its open source version has garnered a staggering 1.2 billion devices.
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has published a new report on growing industrial technologies and key sectors of rapid growth. In particular, the report mentioned the speed of the domestic software ecosystem, and in that, HarmonyOS has acquired a praiseworthy place.
The report says that, HarmonyOS open source ecosystem has exceeded 1.2 billion smart devices across the country, entering a new stage of large-scale development.
Data shared last June shows that the open source HarmonyOS ecosystem has achieved a significant leap in the devices, covering 1,200 product categories, including consumer, industrial, smart home, and enterprise. The ecosystem now includes more than 10 million developers.
Launched in 2019, Huawei initially launched the HarmonyOS operating system for in-house devices. After consistent development, the company made its source code public with the OpenAtom foundation and allowed the industry to take advantage of its capabilities, enabling a wider adaptation for various devices and platforms outside of Huawei.
In the past five years, the open source HarmonyOS community has rapidly increased in its home ground, making it the fastest-growing OS ever released. The key reason for this growth is large-scale application, providing diversified product choices, which plays an important role in improving the security and stability of industrial and supply chains.
Coming out of the HarmonyOS ecosystem is Huawei’s self-developed programming language – Cangjie (translated), which is also gaining a strong foothold in the industry.
Recently, Huawei also released HarmonyOS 6 software for consumer devices, and it supports more than 90 models with OTA updates. Based on the official data, the cumulative installation numbers of HarmonyOS 5 and 6 have increased to 36 million devices, and future installations will take this number even further.
