Huawei has announced that the Pura 90 series will be launching on April 20, but the standard Pura 90 model is missing from the bigger picture. As of today, Huawei is promoting two devices – Pura 90 Pro and Pura 90 Pro Max. Also, revealed their designs with new color schemes.
Usually, smartphone makers bring two variants of their top model – standard and Pro. Over the past decade, Huawei has used this two-variant launch strategy for its key smartphones. These were later joined by the likes of “Pro Plus” and “Ultra”. However, the standard remained.
Last year, the Huawei Pura 80 series included three models – Pura 80, Pura 80 Pro, and Pura 80 Ultra. This year’s lineup has Pura 90 and Pura 90 Pro Max for pre-orders. Rumors suggest that the Ultra version could get slashed from the lineup, and something new may take its place.
In the meantime, we return to our point of discussion and latest insights from Chinese media indicate that the Huawei Pura 90 Pro will take the place of the standard Pura 90, and the Pura 90 Pro Max will be equivalent to the Pura 90 Pro. Basically, the Pura 90 Pro is the new standard, and the Pura 90 Pro Max is the new Pro. So, what about the Pura 90 Ultra? Well, we have to wait for the launch event to find out.

In the meantime, this change may not bring any price changes to these new phones. This move aligns with the industry-wide launch strategy of changing the names of their best smartphones. Recently, Huawei aggressively adopted Pro Max in its phones.
The Huawei Pura 90 will embrace the flat frame design with increased corner radius. It will bring colorful gradient schemes for a refreshed user experience. The rear side has a triangular camera design featuring a telephoto lens. The phone will be accompanied by other Pura series smartphones at the launch event.
