Xiaomi has officially announced the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition, which will make its debut on December 25 at a launch event. This conference will mark the next stage of Xiaomi and Leica’s strategic partnership in mobile camera imaging.
The teaser image shows the phone’s black retail box with the Xiaomi and Leica logos printed on the front.
Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition
The phone maker has captioned the new image teaser with “Xiaomi x Leica Imaging strategic cooperation upgrade and Xiaomi 17 Ultra New Product Launch Event”. It means that the two companies will strengthen their research on new camera imaging systems with this flagship phone.
Xiaomi Group and Leica Camera AG aim to co-create from the product’s source, integrating Leica’s long expertise in professional optics into a mobile imaging system. This integration will reshape the users’ camera experience.
The company founder, Lei Jun, will be on stage to present this new phone. He previously said that the new Ultra device will open a new chapter in mobile camera imaging technologies, indicating new camera upgrades.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra will feature a new 1-inch camera sensor with next-gen low-light photography improvements. It will also be accompanied by a 200MP telephoto camera. Lei Jun confirmed that this will be the industry’s first Leica Apochromatic optical certified device, which will suppress chromatic aberration and improve image quality, while providing continuous optical zoom with the 75mm to 100mm focal length range.
Besides its camera features, the phone will sport a 2D flat screen with round corners and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. The frame is thin, around 8.29mm, making it the thinnest Ultra Xiaomi has released so far.
Initial teasers confirmed that Xiaomi 17 Ultra will have a brand new Starry Green color. In terms of performance, the phone will come with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Qualcomm’s latest flagship chip, along with Ultrawide tech and an IP68 rating.
