Xiaomi today announced a very special smartphone AI assistant, miclaw. While the company uses Xiao AI as its one and only virtual AI agent for its devices, it is now working on a new project, unlocking a smarter and more convenient user experience.
The miclaw AI assistant will focus on autonomous functioning in Xiaomi devices. It will operate across different apps and system features without any interruptions.
Notably, the Xiaomi miclaw is currently in the ‘experimental’ phase. Even though it is reliable, it still fails in certain tasks by behaving abnormally or inconsistently.
For now, Xiaomi has launched the miclaw closed beta testing on MiMo LLM. It means the rollout of the new AI assistant is limited and is open to these devices:
- Xiaomi 17
- Xiaomi 17 Pro
- Xiaomi 17 Pro Max
- Xiaomi 17 Ultra
- Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition
While the company is working on the stable version of this AI assistant, let’s jump into the key details, build-up, and WOW factors of this special technology solution.
miclaw – Build Up
Xiaomi has used an inference-execution loop to develop its AI assistant. Initially, it analyzes the request and selects certain tools and parameters to execute the work. It further reviews the results and continues to work until the task is completed.
Another prominent part is Model Context Protocol that enables existing AI utilities to work efficiently with miclaw without blocking other major processes in the device.
The tech uses a memory system that tracks important operations and, at the same time, compresses previous interactions, prioritizing the original intent of tasks. With Mi Home integration, it can read the status of smart home devices and run them accordingly.
How to use miclaw?
Xiaomi smartphone AI assistant miclaw can interpret users’ intentions rather than simply answering their queries. Once you grant permission to it, the AI can access system features and support third-party apps to carry out the task.
Note that this assistant can choose how to complete an operation on its own – just like Honor AI Agent. Don’t worry, as the new AI tech won’t use your data to train AI models. But if you are jumping into the beta testing, ensure a good backup.
