Xiaomi Watch 5 seems like an ordinary wearable from its look, but when it comes to features – the smartwatch has surprised everyone with its EMG monitoring technology. It is the world’s first wrist gadget to support an EMG health sensor.
Many smartwatches in the market support several health features. One of these is the ECG measurement that keeps an eye on your heart rate and informs you about relevant health data + recommended workouts as well as exercises.
Although Xiaomi Watch 5 is the first wearable to introduce EMG sensor technology. It is a gesture-based technology that defines your health more accurately.
EMG stands for electromyographic signal sensor. It evaluates the health of skeletal muscles and the motor neurons that control them. It’s a test that uses tiny needles to record electrical signals when the muscle rests or contracts.
Looks like Xiaomi has brought this technology to its smartwatch in the form of gesture-based measurement. It is a gesture recognition tech based on the deep fusion of three major sensors.

In simple words, the EMG health sensor can analyse and measure the muscle activity of the hand and differentiate between different finger and hand movements.
The specific technology can capture the weak electromyographic signal of small muscle groups on the hand and then recognize fine movements. It further supports pinching once/twice, rubbing twice, and making fist gestures.

How does it work? You can monitor your muscles by pinching your fingers once or twice. Besides, you can gently rub with both fingers to handle this particular health sensor.
Xiaomi has really leveled up the smartwatch health segment with its new creation. It would be worth seeing what other Chinese brands will do to match this level.
