DeepSeek V4 series AI models have recently made their way to the real world via a preview version, and this move has significantly surged the demand for Huawei Ascend 950 chips. A new report reveals that major Chinese tech firms are stepping up to secure 950 AI processors.
Sources stated that the Huawei Ascend 950 AI chips are touching new heights in terms of demand following the release of DeepSeek V4 models. Three big tech companies – ByteDance, Tencent, and Alibaba are engaging with Huawei for new chip orders.
Note that DeepSeek V4 models (Flash and Pro) run completely on the Ascend 950 AI semiconductors, ditching Nvidia this time. This move is responsible for the sudden increase in demand for Huawei AI processors.
Ascend 950PR is the only Chinese AI semiconductor in Huawei’s family that is capable of supporting new techniques, which process AI calculations to a more compressed numerical format. Thus, it can handle more computations in a second at a lower cost.
It’s not the first time that Ascend 950 is winning favors of the big Chinese companies. In March, ByteDance and Alibaba were already making headlines to place orders for new Huawei AI chips due to their technological upgrades over US firm products.
Apart from the mentioned tech giants, some other cloud computing and GPU rental services providing companies are also making efforts to place orders for Ascend 950.

Even though the Huawei 950PR lags behind the Nvidia H200 chipset, it’s still gaining attention in the market for emerging as a strong alternative to the H20 AI chip.
While Nvidia H200 is still trying to overcome the odds stopping it from stepping into China, DeepSeek V4’s release has offered a big opportunity to Huawei to catch up in the AI race.
Following years of struggle to become an important subject for China’s tech sector, the Chinese OEM is finally winning large orders due to its Ascend 950PR AI chipset. Neither Huawei nor any other firm has commented on this matter yet.
