Huawei is planning to implement a special auto-tracking camera feature for its phones. The company has seeded this functional technology to the latest developer-focused update – HarmonyOS 6.1.1 (24) Beta, suggesting that it can be available soon.
The Chinese tech giant has released a new beta version on its developer portal as the first developer build before the official HarmonyOS 6.1 update for general users.
While the new version contains many additions and enhancements, a unique feature that caught everyone’s attention is the auto-tracking camera for Huawei phones.
According to the official details, the real name of this feature is “Follow the Person”. Just like its name – the new capability enables the device’s camera to follow the person as they move out of the frame, offering a comfortable user experience.
In the current landscape, the company has added the “Follow the Person” API to the Camera Kit. Details reveal that the feature uses real-time crop + zoom algorithms to lock the subject in the shot automatically without any type of manual adjustments.
Users who prefer vlogging, video conferencing, or usually like having video calls while walking – this feature is a boon! Even though many apps support such a capability already, Huawei could bring it natively to its phones.
Note that the developer update features generally mean that the new add-ons are available to a limited audience at present for testing and app development. Since it’s not the final release, it’s currently unclear if Huawei will bring this interesting capability with the stable version in the future.
Apart from the new addition, the company has made prominent changes to other kits like ArkUI, ArkWeb, and more components. You can check the full details below.
