Huawei Tau Law chip tech is breakthrough, but not threat to TSMC: Nvidia

Huawei has introduced the Tau Scaling Law for its chip tech, and amid major spotlight, it has also caught the attention of TSMC and Nvidia. In a recent gathering, the US chipset maker talked about how the global rival sees the Chinese OEM’s latest semiconductor breakthrough.

On May 28th, the CEO of Nvidia, Jensen Huang, conducted a Trillion-Dollar Banquet where he called out the top companies of Taiwan’s semiconductor industry.

Starting his keynote, Jensen said that the second half of this year will witness the biggest win in Nvidia’s history as it will further enhance its partnership with the Taiwanese supply chain with new-gen semiconductor technologies.

The CEO also gave an interview at the event. When a media asked his ideas and opinions on the Huawei Tau Law chip tech, he said that even though it’s a major thing that happened for the company, it’s still not a danger for firms like TSMC.

“Nvidia’s entire supply chain is facing challenges everywhere. I am very happy for them and very proud of them. They deserve it. Huawei uses this tech to double or even triple the number of transistors without making the semiconductor process linewidth finer. This is a very good technology, but TSMC has possessed it for 10 years.”

Adding more, Jensen said that TSMC has been using chip stack tech and 3D packaging technology for around 10 years – and it has become advanced in this field.

Nvidia praised Huawei’s chip tech innovations and the new Tao Scaling Law. But at the same time, it believes that the Chinese OEM still lags behind other global rivals. The CEO even emphasized its own achievements, saying:

“We are the only platform, chip, and computing architecture that can be used in every cloud service. We welcome competition, and Nvidia just needs to keep moving forward.”
