Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, said that ASML is the greatest company in Europe. His comment came before the upcoming internal ASML tech conference.
Musk will be sharing his company’s strategy surrounding AI, robotics, space travel, and semiconductor production. However, his key focus is likely to be the ‘Terafab’, a semiconductor and AI chip manufacturing initiative from Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI.
This future facility will include chip production, including design, lithography, memory, packaging, and testing within the same company.
ASML regularly invites industry technology leaders to share their insights. The invitation to Elon Musk took place in the context of the Terafab project, which is highly relevant to the semiconductor industry,” said ASML through a spokesperson.
With this approach, Musk and his team want to become part of the broader semiconductor industry ecosystem, and ASML plays a key role in it.
However, the invite is raising eyebrows among ASML employees, who don’t agree with Musk’s political views and are probably boycotting the event.
What’s important about this event is that it’s a private meeting, and Musk will be pitching his Terafab goals directly to ASML employees.
ASML is the world’s largest manufacturer of photolithography machines. This equipment is critical to produce microchips. This firm holds a near-monopoly on the complex lithography equipment for microscopic circuitry on modern silicon wafers.
Without its machines, the manufacturing of advanced chips found in smartphones, AI tech, and other devices would not be possible.
Settling Terafab requires ASML’s close cooperation, and dealing with Musk would be more profitable for the EUV maker.
