Huawei reviving dual 3D biometric legacy with Pura 90

Huawei smartphones with dual 3D biometric security features have been the most favorite models among consumers, and following the craze, the company is finally bringing back this 3D face + fingerprint setup with the Pura 90 series this year.

Remember when Huawei Mate and P series phones used to support the in-display fingerprint sensor? One doesn’t have to remain dependent on the power button and miss the lock-screen view due to the side-mounted scanner technology.

Although Huawei has launched the Mate 70 series, Pura 70, Pura 80, and Nova models without an under-screen fingerprint sensor. All these top-end flagships debuted with the power button coupled fingerprint sensor.

The reason behind ditching the in-display sensor tech in the era of 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor could be the cost-effectiveness. Despite top flagships, Pura and Mate phones are affordable, might be due to this one implementation.

For the past couple of years, Huawei has imposed many high-end techs on its devices, but one thing that didn’t change was its side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

But looks like Huawei is ready to bring back its dual 3D biometric face + fingerprint security features with the Pura 90 series. A recent leak noted that the company will use the 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor for the upcoming pioneer models.

Notably, Honor is the only smartphone brand to use dual 3D biometric security features for its flagships. But Huawei may once again get on this track with Pura 90.

3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensors offer superior security, accuracy, and convenience by using sound waves to create a detailed three-dimensional mapping of fingerprints.

The technology is capable of working with even wet or dirty fingers and avoids spoofing like no other biometric technology. It provides faster registration, seamless integration into edge-to-edge displays, and even better performance.

Compared to traditional, 2D methods or the side fingerprint sensors, the 3D tech creates a more reliable and modern user experience, working at varied angles easily, even with oily fingers, where optical sensors often struggle.

Huawei hasn’t confirmed the specific news about the Pura 90 yet. Hence, let’s wait for some more revelations on this matter.
