Huawei is the only brand to continue the “dual-layer OLED” technology for its flagship phones and it seems the company will not have any kind of competition in this department for 2026! A new report has shed light on the firm’s display strategy.
DigitalChatStation dropped some details about the new Huawei handset that will likely feature Mate 80-like color schemes. It is speculated to be the Mate 80 GTS.
Following the leak, a netizen asked whether other smartphone companies will also follow up on the idea of using double-layer OLED for devices, starting this year.
In response, the tipster said:
“In 2026, it is confirmed that Huawei is the only one with the dual-layer OLED tech for phones. Other manufacturers are yet to be determined.”
Apple was the first brand to introduce double-layer OLED with an iPad Pro. Honor took this technology to a new level by launching it with the top-end Magic 6 series.

Though Huawei is the only brand to shift the dual-layer OLED tech from tablet to smartphones and then never went back. After the Mate 70 RS, the Mate 80 RS also used the ultimate display, and the same may apply for the Pura 90 models.
Dual-layer OLED combined with the LTPO technology offers an excellent viewing experience. The former tech uses two OLED layers for superior brightness and longevity of the screen, while the latter provides smooth scrolling and power efficiency.
Benefits of dual-layer OLED include:
- Two LED layers for much higher peak brightness, enhancing HDR content.
- Slow down degradation and prevent image retention.
- Uses less power and improves battery life
- Achieves high brightness without sacrificing contrast = vibrant colors
- Less stress on the organic materials
For now, we can say that Huawei won’t see any competition in the dual-layer OLED phones department for at least 2026!
